Our Story
When Family Guidance Centers opened its doors in 1980, we became the first private mental health group practice in Chesterfield County. From the very beginning, we were embraced by the Chesterfield Community Mental Health Center, local physicians, schools, and the community at large. For more than 45 years, we have remained a trusted source of compassionate, high-quality psychological care.
As the needs of our communities have grown, so have we. In 2001, we expanded our reach to Powhatan, providing mental health services to an underserved community and extending our commitment to making quality care accessible to more individuals and families.
In 2016, we opened our Midlothian location to meet the needs of one of the region’s fastest-growing communities.
In 2020, we expanded into the Henrico and Richmond area with a new location. That same year, we introduced Telehealth services as an integral part of our practice, allowing us to provide greater flexibility and accessibility to those we serve.
Our growth continued in 2021 with the opening of our Virginia Beach location, extending our services to the Tidewater community.
In 2022, we welcomed two additional locations in Glen Allen and Brandermill, further expanding our ability to serve individuals and families throughout the region.
In 2023, we opened our Newport News location, bringing Family Guidance Centers’ trusted, compassionate care to even more families across Virginia.
Today, with eight locations throughout Virginia and a team of more than 60 licensed and experienced therapists, Family Guidance Centers continues to grow while remaining grounded in the same values that have guided us since 1980: compassionate care, clinical excellence, and a commitment to the communities we serve.
