James Steverson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from St Leo University and a master’s degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University. James has worked in mental health and substance abuse for over 8 yrs., prior to this; James served 26 yrs. in the United States Navy. He specializes in working with clients seeking to address various types of personality disorders, attachment disorder, depression, anxiety, self-esteem/self-confidence, ADHD, stress management, anger management and substance abuse.
James believes a key to successful treatment is the correct diagnosis. Meeting and evaluating clients’ needs is often a short, but critical part of the process. Developing treatment plans with clients, engaging clients to take an active part in their own treatment is often the best approach to a successful plan of action.
My responsibilities are to use intervention skills, assessment techniques, work with interpersonal differences, understand client conceptualization, accept individual differences, use theoretical orientation, create treatment goals and plans and use professional ethics. My therapeutic philosophy comes from a person-centered theoretical orientation which means that this therapeutic relationship comes from a combination of both your efforts and my own to help clients reach his/her goals. A James therapeutic approach includes utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Crisis Intervention, Narrative Therapy, and Personalized Approaches. It is my mission to deliver the highest quality of mental health services by using empirically validated and researched treatment. I am committed to offering professional, confidential, and ethical service while maintaining a safe, validating, and supportive environment. I have great respect for the clients who seek my services, and I am committed to helping them improve their health and well-being and reduce their distress and dysfunction.
