As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Tera has a passion for helping others by partnering with her clients on their life's journey, as she believes in providing a supportive and safe place where clients can express themselves authentically and freely, are heard, accepted and empowered to play an active role in their treatment. It is within the context of a safe and therapeutic environment, creative self-expression, positive emotional and behavioral change and breaking down internal barriers can be surmounted. Through her professional career experience working in community based, intensive outpatient, acute inpatient and residential treatment facility settings, Tera's approaches to treatment and recovery are rooted in eclecticism as she believes in individualized treatment, utilizing various approaches to encourage, challenge and empower. Her approaches include but are not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, strength-based perspectives, reality therapies, trauma informed, motivational interviewing, mindfulness based practices, expressive art therapies such as journaling, as well as existential approaches have been used within individual, family, couple and group therapies.
Tera received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and received a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. She enjoys working with children, adolescents, as well as adults addressing a variety of challenges to include depression, non-suicidal self-injury, anxiety, adjustment/transitions during adolescence and college years, mood swings, anger management, trauma, women's issues, self-esteem, body image and overall emotional, spiritual and physical wellness.
