"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards."
- Søren Kierkegaard
Sophie Settle is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies. Sophie has five years' experience of providing talk therapy to adults, children, and teens through outpatient university, Intensive In Home, and inpatient recovery-based settings. Sophie's counseling approach is primarily Humanistic, meaning that she seeks to bring awareness to the individual's experiences and point-of-view in order to promote personal and professional growth. Depending on the individual's needs and concerns, Sophie also utilizes Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, and Family Systems approaches. In addition to talk-based therapy, Sophie also enjoys incorporating artistic and play therapy-based activities into her work with clients. She finds that creative, expressive exercises can be especially helpful to children and adolescents. That being said, artistic activities can be effective for all ages, particularly if a client is trying to describe a thought or an experience, but is having trouble with finding the right words. Some of Sophie's interests and specialties include family-of-origin issues; identity and life transitions; faith and spirituality; anxiety and adjustment disorders; grief and loss; trauma; addictions and recovery support.
